This is well built and powerful, not exactly subtle, but then none of these wines are. Instead you get complex, layered and concentrated inky fruits, with some aniseed too. The balance and elegance of St-Julien comes in through the tailored and fine tannins on the finish, but while these tannins may be fine, there are lots of them. 80% new oak. The story of Château Gruaud Larose starts with Joseph Stanislas Gruaud who developed the estate in the early 18th Century. Two of his descendents ended up with different halves of the Gruaud estate until, in 1778, Chevalier de Gruaud died and left his portion to his son-in-law Joseph Sébastien de la Rose who immediately appended his name to the estate. Gruaud-Larose was split further in 1867, with Château Gruaud-Larose-Sarget and Château Gruaud-Larose-Faure being seperate until 1935 when the Cordier family, who'd bought the Sarget half in 1919, bought Gruaud-Larose-Faure and put the old estate back together again. Ownership by the Cordiers, and the association with other similarly labelled wines in the portfolio - Talbot, Meyney - kept Château Gruaud Larose as a consistent favourite among Bordeaux lovers. Gruaud-Larose is now owned by the Taillan Group. There are 82ha of vineyard, just to the south west of Beychevelle - 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec.
Gruaud-Larose is among the fuller-bodied styles of St Julien, producing consistently good wines and, whilst the crown of "best estate in St Julien" sits with Leoville Las Cases, the wines of Gruaud-Larose are always worth following. Deep, intense fruit is matched by well-structured tannins which have given it the ability to age into an elegant and powerful wine.

So much sweet-tobacco and currant character with some earth on the nose. Full body, firm and chewy tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Closed and complex still, but a typically beautiful Bordeaux. Try after 2022.
The 2016 Gruaud Larose is blended of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps from the glass with notes of red and black cherries, warm plums and freshly crushed blackcurrants plus hints of violets, oolong tea, aniseed and tilled soil with a waft of garrigue. Medium-bodied, the palate struts tons of elegantly fragrant red and black fruit flavors with a firm backbone of ripe, grainy tannins and loads of freshness, finishing long and perfumed. (LPB)

International Delivery
For customers wishing to ship wines outside the UK we will arrange export paperwork and prepare wines to be collected by your freight forwarder of choice at an agreed date and time from LCB Burton Gateway. You will be responsible for the wines from the point at which they are collected by your forwarder.
If you would like us to arrange the export and onward delivery of your wines, please let us know and we will be happy to provide a quotation. We use a select number of trusted freight forwarders who specialise in moving fine and rare wines and can ship worldwide in temperature-controlled conditions if necessary and at competitive rates.

We offer in bond storage (remaining duty and tax free) of any fine wines purchased from us at our custom controlled warehouse at £18 per 9 litre case (12 bottles, 6 magnums, etc.) or £15 per 4.5 litre or less a case (6 bottles, 3 magnums to 1 bottle) per year, plus V.A.T. This includes insurance and will apply to wines that remain uncollected or undelivered 30 days after the date of the sale.
